If I Fled

Beautiful soul, would you take me slow to your pool of light
And let’s sit for a while
We’ll cover the road where we’ve been since when you dropped in again
And we were only children and friends

Only these oats that we sow will grow
Searching high and alone to find that if you open your eyes
Remember the time when you said you’d care for me even if I fled
Oh man, it’s crazy, but somehow I still believe, I still believe

Ooh

Now that I’ve grown and the ways are sown deep in many sore
Creases of my hands
Do you look old, have you lost the time, fallen far behind
Can you see yourself right now

Searching high and alone to find that if you open your eyes
Remember the time when you said you’d care for me even if I fled
Oh man, it’s crazy, but somehow I still believe, I still believe

I wish you’d find me, come and rewind me
Shine like a light through the pane of my window
Healing with sight, help me fly far beyond
I’ll take you for the night, there’s company in sorrow
Tonight, tonight, believe

Open your eyes
Remember the time when you said you’d care for me even if I fled
Oh man, it’s crazy, but somehow I still believe, I still believe

Open your eyes
Remember the time when you said you’d care for me even if I fled
Oh man, it’s crazy, but somehow I still believe, I still believe
About New Album

“If I Fled” is a quiet, reflective song about growing up—and about the people we leave behind as time moves us forward. Rooted in memory and longing, the song looks back on a first love from youth and asks the tender, lingering question: Would we recognize each other now?

MAKIE often refers to the song as “Wendy’s Song,” inspired by the emotional undercurrent of Peter Pan—the moment when childhood gives way to adulthood, and love is remembered not for what it became, but for what it was. Like Wendy, the narrator stands at the threshold between then and now, holding space for innocence, wonder, and loss.

The lyrics trace the ache of distance and time, reflecting on growth, separation, and the possibility that two people shaped by shared beginnings may no longer fit the same way. It’s a song about sowing and scattering, believing and remembering—about carrying the echo of someone even when life pulls you in different directions.

“If I Fled” invites listeners to revisit their own early loves—the ones that helped shape who they became—and to sit with the beauty and sorrow of wondering how those stories live on.
